Set against the lush greenery of FRIM, Offline 16: Nature’s Retreat welcomed 300 participants for a refreshing 4-hour escape from digital screens, a much-needed breather in today’s fast-paced, always-connected world. Held on 21 June 2025, the event was organised by VitaHealth in collaboration with Tropicana Corporation, offering a curated lineup of nature-inspired activities designed to boost mental wellness, spark genuine human connection, and inspire a deeper appreciation for sustainable living.

A Movement That Keeps Growing

Launched just last year, Offline 16 began as a simple idea — to create a space for people take a break from their phones. With 28 offline hours accumulated across four unique events, and nearly 900 participants involved so far, the initiative continues to grow in both reach and impact. This growing movement is quickly becoming a standout initiative in Malaysia’s mental wellness landscape. Beyond the numbers, its true impact lies in the stories shared, the friendships formed, and the positive mindset shifts it continues to inspire.

Speaking at the event, Dr KS Beh, Chief Executive Officer of VitaHealth (Malaysia & Singapore) and founder of Offline 16, shared, “Our mission is to transform Offline 16 into a widespread mental wellness movement, where everyone, young and old, can take meaningful breaks from the digital world, and embrace a healthier and happier lifestyle. She highlighted that the first Offline 16 event in Penang this year saw over 200 participants engaging in a dynamic pickleball challenge, while the second edition at FRIM drew 300 participants for a nature-inspired retreat. “This shows that Malaysians are increasingly open to healthier, more engaging, and balanced ways of living. At VitaHealth, we live by our slogan ‘Healthy Life, Happy Vibes’, and we’re committed to championing this movement for many years to come,” Dr. Beh added.

Serena Lim, Senior General Manager of Group Corp Comms & ESG unit of Tropicana and Senior Committee Member of Tropicana Foundation, emphasised, “As a community builder, our ESG commitments centre on creating and nurturing liveable townships where residents can truly enjoy a work-live-learn-shop-play environment. Offline 16 is more than just a digital detox—it’s a platform that nurtures mental, physical, and environmental wellness. We are proud to continue this journey with VitaHealth, representing both Tropicana Corporation and our community-conscious arm, Tropicana Foundation. In line with our mantra ‘Redefining the Art of Living, Caring and Sharing’, we remain committed to growing this positive movement, and we warmly welcome more corporate partners to join us.”

Also present at the event were Foo Hwei Jiek, Trading Director of Watsons Malaysia; Malaysia’s very own Olympian and VitaHealth ambassador, Pearly Tan; Lui Hui Yin, Centre Manager and Counsellor of Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA); Choi Mann Yee, Clinical Psychologist of National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM); and Yoong Yi, Founder of Precious Plastic Malaysia. Their presence underscored the growing support for mental wellness and sustainable living initiatives.

“I believe that wellness is not just about staying active. It’s also about finding balance and peace of mind,” shared Pearly Tan. “That’s why Offline 16 means so much to me. It’s a great reminder to pause, breathe, and just enjoy the present. I’m really happy to be part of this movement that promotes mental well-being and builds a happy community.”

Where phones go off and peace flows on

From 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, participants embraced four full hours of going offline, setting aside their digital devices to be fully present, mindful, and grounded in nature. The day began with energising warm-up movements, followed by a guided nature trek through the lush greenery of FRIM, offering a peaceful escape into the forest. Participants then enjoyed a calming tai chi session by NCSM, engaged in a hands-on keychain upcycling activity by Precious Plastic Malaysia, and ended with a group breathing and meditation session led by certified mental health professionals from MMHA.

Alongside these main activities, participants explored engaging booth experiences throughout the day. These included free health tests by VitaHealth and Watsons, a relaxing DIY pouch painting corner, stretching sessions conducted by Dr.stretch, and a cozy reading nook curated by BookXcess.

Each activity was carefully curated to provide a holistic experience that nurtured physical health, mental clarity, and a deeper appreciation for environmental well-being. A surprise finale with live parrots stole the show, bringing bursts of colour, laughter, and joy as participants flocked to interact with the charming birds.

To add to the excitement, participants stood a chance to win lucky draw prizes worth a total of RM15,000. Everyone also walked away with goodie bags worth RM300, along with a finisher badge and an e-certificate as a token of achievement for completing the Offline 16 challenge.

In a key highlight of the event, VitaHealth officially announced the two-year renewal of its ambassadorship with national shuttler Pearly Tan, who has been representing the brand since 2023. Currently ranked World No. 3, Pearly was also awarded a cash incentive of RM15,000 by VitaHealth in recognition of her recent outstanding achievements, including winning the Thailand Open and finishing as runner-up at the Indonesia Open. The celebration continued with a heartwarming meet-and-greet session, where Pearly warmly engaged with her fans.
